Thought I’d drop the link to a free e-book that I’m currently reading: Shape-up from the people at Basecamp. The shaping process rings especially true to me. The measures to reduce risk are also worth considering.
By the way @Rachel, the messenger I suggested in the meeting is from Todoist, a fully distributed team that felt they needed to get off Slack as it was too hectic for them. I haven’t tried it, but I like the concept and do trust those guys to know quite a bit more about what makes a great messenger for distributed teams than Slack does (the Slack team being mostly co-located).
Good tip @pedro. The Embark team seems to be using Discord well, and have sync’d it to Status as well. I personally think its a good balance between “always on and noisy” Slack vs chaotic Status.
